Today Kai had 24.5 ounces of food and 10 hours sleep. And I thought yesterday was bad!

Had both a productive and non productive day.

Visited the Health Visitor for weighing and measuring the babba. He now weighs 10lb 8oz. Unfortunately, the appointment coincided with what would appear to be his morning nap so he was an overtired bag of loveliness and joy all day. Hence the non productivity!

And… eBay again… the bundle of toys I bid on arrived. They were in wonderful condition and we are going to wrap them for his first Christmas as he will be 4 months old then and should start noticing them. Can’t wait!

Today Kai had 30 ounces of food and 13 hours sleep.

Babba was feeling very sorry for himself today as he had a mild cold. Sounded very husky and a bit of a snuffly nose. He seemed to be awake forever! Was sick twice through overeating… yay!

All in all, didn’t get much done and looking forward to when he will find his toys interesting!

Did win a winter towelling robe on eBay for the little fella for after bath time for £2.50 which wasn’t bad as the same one in Mothercare costs £12.00.

We had a mostly unproductive day. We made arrangements to go and pick up a bed guard that I won on eBay for 99p (bargain!) after our weekly shopping had been delivered.

Unfortunately, the shopping didn’t turn up, so we spent an hour and a half chasing them before we gave up and cancelled the order. This made us late for picking up the bed guard which they were fortunately ok with. It also meant we now have no food for the week… yay! Luckily, we have a spare box of formula so can arrange for a different company to come bring us our food!

Did all my housework while Stu had a nap with Kai. Lovely day all round.

Today Kai had 32 ounces of food and 14 1/2 hours sleep. (The half is extremely important!)
This morning started off the same as most, no breakfast and no lunch because of screamy purple monster boy! The weird thing is, the screaming is not the colic screaming we used to get... he just seems to want to moan! Reminds me of me on a particularly bad PMT day. If only I could feed him chocolate, seems to work for me!

The dogs are not very pleased with me as I've now banned them from upstairs so they have to listen to baby crying and getting broken sleep too! Why? Because I found little madam on my bed with her back paws on the headboard (no lies!) and her front paws on the windowsill trying to see out! Not only was there fur everywhere so I had to wash the bedding, but she's scratched the wood on the headboard. Not what I needed when I already had piles of washing as I was waiting for a good day to hang it out to dry. To be fair, it was kind of my fault as she is just out of season and I left the window open... but she did know better!
As it's Saturday, Stu only worked a half day today so I could hand Kai over to him and have a lovely afternoon reading and watching 'True Blood'.

Today Kai had 14 hours of sleep and 21.5 ounces of food. Probably because he ate it all yesterday!

I had a lovely relaxed day with little drama today as babba very kindly slept through most of the day that Daddy was at work.

The only problem that we really had was that the days and nights are getting much colder now and as we do not have any central heating in our house (only a couple of gas fires and a standalone oil filled tiny radiator) we are having to try and find ingenious ways of heating the rooms that we are in after Kai’s bath.

I think we cracked it last night by putting the oil filled radiator in our room (where Kai sleeps) and putting his towel on there to warm up so he could go straight into  warm towel after his bath and put his pyjamas on there to warm while we are drying him and putting his nappy on. He was much more content after bath time for a change doing things that way!

Felt quite good as lost two pounds this week, so a total of 1 1/2 stone since I gave birth (21lbs). It was even more impressive as had a takeaway of fish and chips yesterday and a caramel doughnut tonight. I guess I deserve it after all of the breakfast and lunch fiascos this week…. didn’t realise it would help me to diet! Only have another 2 stone to go (28lbs) but I’m expecting that to take forever to lose so am not holding my breath. Would love to look in the mirror and actually like what I see again instead of focussing on the flabby middle and sea of stretchmarks. I’m taking each day as it comes with my weight loss, as before I got pregnant I lost 3 stone in 6 months to prepare for my wedding in September last year. I just remember how hard it was and having to resort to the Atkins diet to shift the last 14lbs!

Had a bit of a weepy morning as haven’t had much sleep over the last few days (hence my lovely husband coming back home from work with my caramel doughnut - which happens to be my favourite!). I am very much looking forward to the days that baby and I can actually understand each other… although I’m sure they will come with their own trials and tribulations!

Finally, looking forward to January time as this is when I am allowing myself to buy some new clothes, get a haircut and possibly a new tattoo to celebrate Kai’s birth. I think my weight will have stabilised a bit by then and I can see if I am likely to continue losing weight or stay the same for a while. The below picture is of the wings on my back which was taken on my wedding day last year. I am thinking of possibly having Kai’s name written down the centre, but not sure if this will then look overcrowded. Oh well, food for thought!

Today Kai had 33.5 ounces of food and 13 hours sleep.

I have a feeling (judging by the extremely broken sleeping and the cluster feeding) that today was a bit of a growth spurt! Because of this, doing anything at all was extremely difficult.

image

This is my almost quite nearly breakfast. It almost quite nearly got eaten, and then Kai woke up and turned into the purple screaming monster. By the time I got back to it… it was very soggy, warm and horrible. I decided to leave it!

I decided today that after trying to wake babba up for a week during the day to limit his naps, after keeping a note of his routine that he is still too young for day and night to sink in yet. So, as of tomorrow, I’m still going to note his routine as it’s handy to know but I’m not going to wake him from his naps anymore. Yay! More time for me!

Because of the cluster feeding, we had to do something we haven’t done before.

image

Move on from the little bottles to the big bottles. *Sniff* Baby is growing up aready… he’s now not only in 0-3 clothes instead of newborn, but he’s on the big bottles.

Finally, just as I was wrapping up for the day and taking the above picture… I had a ‘bad mummy’ moment and dropped the camera on the baby. Who happened to be asleep at the time. Needless to say, hilarity ensued and he was very not happy with his mummy and didn’t want to go back to sleep.

image

The dogs did come from their retreat upstairs to see what the problem is after the camera incident. Clearly didn’t want to come too close though! Maya is at the front and Niko is at the back.

I think I need more sleep!

Today Kai had 28.5 ounces of food and 11 hours of sleep.

I got up at 3.15 with him today and went downstairs to let Stu get some more sleep. Needless to say, this was the most difficult day by far that I have had with him. He spent most of the day inconsolably crying because he was tired and wouldn’t go to sleep. Was not the best day to have got up early.

I did find that going for a walk with the pram and my ipod helped distance myself from the situation and he did manage to get to sleep while we were walking so may employ this tactic again.

Took a lovely photo of him smiling too which I will post when I retrieve the pictures from my camera.

My eBay blankie came too… woo!

Very tired… it’s amazing how much listening to them cry for hours takes it out of you!

And to top it all off… didn’t win my eBay bundle of toys that I was bidding on.

Today Kai had 30.5 ounces of food and slept for 18 hours.

We had a lovely relaxing day today. Kai slept alot (he did get up very early but that’s a side issue!). I managed to keep on top of the cleaning and enjoyed spending time with my boy. I finished a book that I got a couple of weeks ago (totally unheard of that it wasn’t finished the same day - pre baby that is!)
For the first time, when he was asleep he tried to suck his thumb. I tried to get a photo but the camera was across the room. I won’t make that mistake again!

Didn’t get out for a walk as I was just enjoying the silence and cuddles that I was getting all day.

And… my eBay package didn’t come. I know it was only posted yesterday… but I wanted to see my new comforter blankie! Well… it’s not strictly for me… but does look cute…

The dogs have obviously now decided that all the little human of the house does is eat, sleep, poo and cry. They have decided that they can cope with the first three, but now take themselves off upstairs to get some peace and quiet when he cries. I think they are missing the nights/days of undistubed peace too!

Wednesday, 22 September 2010

Today I learned:

* No matter how much you try, the housework will NOT get done if you try and do it on your own.

* Showers and the internet are both useful for feeling like you have some semblance of sanity into your life.

* I miss adult conversations.

* You cannot feasibly be a yummy mummy if you cannot put the baby down without him screaming his little lungs out. In fact, you cannot even have breakfast without help.

* Sometimes… they just cry.

* No matter how close you place the camera to you, you will always miss the picture you are trying to take.

* There is no better feeling than realising that your baby is not crying because he cannot think of any place better he would rather be at that point than being in your arms.

Cuteness - Bottled. I could make millions with this.

9.00 sleep

Today Kai had 13 hours of sleep and 29.5 ounces of food. A new record for hungry baby!

It was my first day alone with the baby today, and I am proud to say I managed ok! Baby is still alive, with a full belly and a clean nappy. I would definitely say that this is a job well done. I even managed to make a meal for dinner!

Was going to go for a walk, but it looked like it was going to rain and as I still had not retrieved the raincover from the car which was with Stu at work… I decided it was probably not worth the risk for another new parent moment!

Colic was not bad today, Kai just decided he didn’t want to go to sleep again so we were up quite early. On the up side, the dogs got a long walk!

Felt very exhausted when Stu got home. There is not enough time in the day!
But… we did have a smile today and it was lovely and worth every minute of sleep deprivation. Still no camera when you need it though!

Today Kai had 26 ounces of food and 17.5 hours of sleep.

As the little chap was 1 month old today, we decided to celebrate by having our first ‘big’ dinner since he was born in the form of a beef roast dinner with all of the trimmings kindly cooked by Stu.

We wanted to take loads of pictures but Kai had his own ideas and slept the majority of the day. I really didn’t mind so much as it left me time to relax and read a book and play ‘eBay’. I really think I’m addicted to auctions. This time next year I will be queueing up outside car boot sales.

We did win a ‘taggie’ style blanket from Mothercare to co-ordinate with the range that we bought for the Nursery that they have now discontinued. Really happy with it as it only cost me £10.

I also bid on a clothes bundle for the little chap but got outbid at the last minute. This led to me sulking and going to bed in a mature and rational manner.

Not looking forward to Stu going back to work tomorrow as I will have to be the grown up and have sole responsibility for a whole little person. May treat myself to a trip to the shop with the little guy to buy a magazine. Although, if i start going in every day they may start thinking I’m casing out the joint.

At the end of the day, we had the most gorgeous smile from the little man. Couldn’t get the camera fast enough to take a picture, even if it was entirely due to wind it would have been nice to have as his one month old picture.
This parenting thing is alot scarier than I thought it would be but he is worth it. Even if he does wee on me.

Today Kai had 26.5 ounces of food and 13 hours sleep.

Nothing much happened today, even though he spent most of the time awake!

During the night, our lovely little man decided he was bored and that we should ALL get up at 1am!

We all went downstairs and ended up watching 28 Days Later. It was only after a mammoth screaming session that we realised that he had actually gone to sleep. I think he must have hated the scenery.

On the Colic front, we actually had a pretty good day. Although there was alot of wakey baby, there wasn’t that much screamy baby which was a nice change for the evening! He spent most of the day just watching the world go by propped up on the sofa. I’m pretty sure he can’t see as far as the tv yet, but he’s doing a pretty good job of pretending to watch it.

We went for another walk to the shops, but this time we went to get some cola and some Mars milkshake. The little chap was an angel on this walk and slept as soon as we put him down in his pram and stayed asleep for the whole journey.

Kai still isn’t interested in ‘stuff’ but we did have a breakthrough that he turned his head to look at some keys being jangled. Not the most interesting thing in the world, but apparently more so than any of the toys we’ve bought him so far. He is so going to be a kid that prefers the boxes to the toys in them at Christmas.

8.45 p.m sleep

Today Kai had 25 ounces of food and 13 hours of sleep. Unfortunately not all in one go.

Night time tonight was pretty pants. He slept very little on one go which usually meant that once I was sure he was actually asleep and tried to go to sleep myself… AWAKE BABY!

One of my friends came to visit me today which was good fun! Kai did have a little bit of a cry when she held him, but only because he was hungry and grumpy from lack of sleep. I wish it was that easy to express MYself! I felt like throwing myself on the floor and having a toddler tantrum many times today, albeit for pointless things. The ASDA delivery driver was 3 mins late. I called them and complained. Super cowbag or what? Got free delivery on my next order though which was something. Although he probably spat in my bananas.

I did manage to make my first (healthy) homecooked meal since Kai was born today. I felt like a super culinary genius… even though it was only pasta with pancetta, leeks and mushrooms. Was yummy though and a definite change from ready meals.

Today, Kai had 26 ounces of food and 16.5 hours sleep.

We had the best night’s sleep so far tonight with two four hour stints.

The Colic made up for the wonderful sleep though. Didn’t really go away much at all. I ended up upstairs on the rocking chair to try and calm the boy down as he worked himself up quite alot. I managed to do it in the end through sheer determination, however I did realise that one flaw in my ‘super nursery’ was no table to put anything on. Like bottles or dummies. Or a book for me. Hilarity ensued when trying to put the bottle down on the floor.

It was just one of those days which meant only one thing. Going to to the shops. For chocolate. Lots of it. We managed to make it half way down the road before Kai started screaming. It wasn’t until we got home that we realised that he had managed to wee himself and soak all of his clothes and the big jacket he was wearing. No wonder the little tyke was miserable.
During the walk it started to spit with rain which led us to another ‘new parent’ moment. Realising that we had bought the changing bag and food for him that we didn’t need as there was nowhere to change/feed him and forgetting the raincover!

Oh well, at least we remembered the baby.

“This too shall pass.”

(Persian: این نیز بگذرد, Hebrew: גם זה יעבור‎, Turkish: Bu da geçer) is a proverb indicating that all material conditions, positive or negative, are temporary. The phrase seems to have originated in the writings of the medieval Persian Sufi poets, and is often attached to a fable of a great king who is humbled by the simple words. Some versions of the fable, beginning with that of Attar of Nishapur, add the detail that the phrase is inscribed on a ring, which therefore has the ability to make the happy man sad and the sad man happy. Jewish folklore often describes Solomon as giving or receiving the phrase. The proverb and associated fable were popular in the first half of the 19th century, appearing in a collection of tales by the English poet Edward Fitzgerald and being employed in a speech by Abraham Lincoln before he became president.

Today, Kai has 13.5 hours sleep and 31 ounces of food. Hungry baby!

Today we had two bouts of Colic, once in the morning between 5 and 10.25 and in the evening from 5.45 to 9.10. It would appear that 5 o’clocks are not his best times of the day!

Gran and Grandpa visited today for the first time. They live an hours drive away so can’t visit very often. Unfortunately, baby was not awake for much of it as they came around at 11:30 and we thought it was best for him to stay asleep for a while so as not to try and disrupt his routine. They bought some lovely clothes for him.

After the bath tonight, Kai’s tummy was very bad and he was letting everyone in the world know about it. It’s times like this that I feel so useless and just want to make him feel better. Granted, the ulterior motive for this is that I would like to reach 30 with my eardrums still functional. We went and sat in the nursery for a while to just get away from everything. There is a chair from Ikea in there that rocks slightly when you push with your feet. We sat in there for half an hour before Kai fell asleep.

After a day like this, I despair that Stuart is going back to work next week. Independent woman? Hmmm. Tired and grumpy woman. I think by the end of next week I will be communicating entirely by grunting.

Today, Kai had 26 ounces of food and 17 hours of sleep.

Colic was rife today.

We had an appointment to go and look around the nursery that Kai will be in when I go back to work next year. Unfortunately, Colic hit in the morning before the appointment and he couldn’t settle at all. Cue us turning up on time at the nursery with a very shouty baby in tow! Great fun and not embarrassing at all.On the up side, the nursery looked nice. No-one else was screaming.

The afternoon was relatively trouble free and bath time was great. Well, as great as a three week old can find bath time.
